Effective Weight Loss

Nutritional Wisdom
 to
 "Make the Shape"

TAMPA MEDICAL PARTNERS has a successful Medical Weight Loss Program and a Natural Weight Loss Program.

We call it.....MAKE the SHAPE.

Our philosophy and this system is in integrating practical foods, exercise, positive
re-enforcement and life modifications with an understanding of your personal uniqueness.

Developing this wisdom can lead toward healthy eating habits that work for you.

Consider your unique needs

  • Every person has their own individual needs. Genetics, health, medical history, eating preferences and lifestyles influence each persons nutritional requirement.

Make sure your meals are balanced

  •  Do not limit yourself to one type of meal.
  • Make it enjoyable and have a variety of foods.
  • This includes a generous amounts of vegetables, fruits, a moderate amount of protein rich foods, whole grains and small amounts of healthy fats and oils.

Only eat just enough to satisfy your hunger

  • Create a pattern of eating regularly throughout the day. This way you can avoid hunger and "the one large meal habit".
  •  Eat slowly, bring your attention to each bite and be aware of your physical appetite. You can do this by creating a habit of small portions.

 "Be in the Moment"

  • Eat healthy and nutritious foods
  • Make sure that you choose fresh in season fruits and vegetables.

Create a Road to Eating Wisely

  • Focus on vibrant health
  • Create a positive support system
  • Balance of protein-rich foods

Overeating and Why We Do It

  • Changing our eating habits is not easy.
  • We live in a culture with an overabundance of wonderful, delicious foods.
  • We need to understand our eating pattern to be able to modify them.
  • No time to eat throughout the day so we eat one large meal
  • "super size" it for me
  • Stress, depression or any reason to distract ourselves
  • We can become easily sedentary and our eating control does not work well
  • Do not leave anything behind on the plate
  • Fad diets..."eat all you want and still loose weight"
  • Thinking "I owe it to myself"
  • Any reason to celebrate with food

The Perfectionism Syndrome

You started to modify your eating habits, everything is going according to plan.

Then you pick up a cookie out of a bag  and eat it. Remorse sets in and you start thinking that you just messed up your entire day, because of that small detour.

So you rationalize that your entire day is done as far as your eating schedule….so you eat the entire bag of cookies.

"PERFECTIONISM"

The Temptations

  • Pasta
  • Sugar free or Fat free
  • "I have been good all day"....LARGE dessert time
  • Bread....carbs, carbs, carbs
  • Salad dressing
  • French fries....about 16 large French fries equal to a medium size loaded bake potato
  • Snacks (the wrong type) anytime anywhere until you are not hungry

How to control overeating

  • In the long run eating properly has more rewards then the immediate gratification of overeating
  • In a restaurant do not just accept, order slightly smaller portions
  • Take leftover food home for another meal
  • Impose boundaries on foods you know you may overeat
  • Do not DIET...
